Personality: Haruhi is above all independent and straight-forward and believes that your gender shoudn't define your personality. Since she was raised differently from the other students, she displays more practical, down to earth, responsible qualities and is not easily swooned by the charms of the hosts like the most girls. Even when she first meet the hosts, she only reacts nervously instead of becoming immediately infatuated.
History: Haruhi is an intelligent first-year student from a poor family (having a cross-dressing father and a deceased mother) who attends the Ouran Academy, an exclusive private school, on a special scholarship that requires her to rank first in her class. One day, while looking for a quiet place to study, she stumbles upon the dreamy Host Club and accidentally breaks an 8 million yen vase belonging to them that was to be featured in a school auction. As a result, she must work off her debt to the club by disguising herself as a boy and working as a host for them. She finds this easy because she does not feel that gender dominates her personality. She soon realizes that acting as host and talking to the other girls comes quite naturally and she begins to enjoy it. As time passes she becomes very close with the "King" of the host club, but after certain circumstance's she breaks all ties with him and is now a regular student (regular student = not a host club member) at Ouran academy, and she no longer has to hide her gender, so she has begun to grow her hair out again. She often thinks about her friend in the host club and sometimes wishes she could rejoin, but knows that is impossible, so instead of enteraining other girls, she studies non stop, so as to become a lawyer.
